ADE RIVANDI GORONTALO 1“Some experts suspect this change is due to the activity of convection currents inside the earth's core that causes electricity thus generated magnetic field affects the magnetic field around it. the dominant material of the earth's core is iron which is a good conductor. The movement of the earth's core is liquid which allows electrical current then caused major earth's magnetic field. . W.M.

ADE RIVANDI GORONTALO 1Paleomagnetism is The study of the direction and intensity of the Earth's magnetic field through geologic time. Paleomagnetism has been, and continues to be, an important tool in unraveling the past movements of the Earth's, tectonic plates. By studying the records of the ancient magnetic field left in rocks, earth scientists are able to learn how the continental and oceanic plates have moved relative to the Earth's, spin axis and relative to one another. In addition, the global reference frame of the Earth's, magnetic field provides a very useful basis for temporal correlation of rocks on a local or global geographic scale (magnetostratigraphy).

BLESKADIT CATHERINE D GORONTALO 2Paleomagnetism dipelajari pada sejumlah skala: A. Secular variation studies look at small-scale changes in the direction and intensity of the Earth's magnetic field. The magnetic north pole is constantly shifting relative to the axis of rotation of the Earth. Magnetism is a vector and so magnetic field variation is made up of palaeodirectional measurements of magnetic declination and magnetic inclination and palaeointensity measurements.

BLESKADIT CATHERINE D GORONTALO 2Magnetostratigraphy uses the polarity reversal history of the Earth's magnetic field recorded in rocks to determine the age of those rocks. Reversals have occurred at irregular intervals throughout Earth history. The age and pattern of these reversals is known from the study of sea floor spreading zones and the dating of volcanic rocks.

RHEZKY DWI RAMADHAN GORONTALO 4Paleomagnetic is the study of the Earth's magnetic field recorded in rocks. Certain minerals in the rock record shows the direction and intensity of the magnetic field at the time of formation of the rock. This recording provides information on the Earth's magnetic field in the past and the existence of plate tectonics at that time. Records of geomagnetic reversals preserved in volcanic and sedimentary rocks

The rocks can maintain stable recording geomagnetic field direction. Under the direction of magnetization can be calculated position of the magnetic poles at the time, called the Virtual Geomagnetic Pole (VGP). In a continent, rocks with different ages gives the average VGP positions are different. The appearance of a polar shift over time known as Apparent Polar Wander (APW). By connecting the positions of the average VGP different time periods at different places within the same continent can draw a line called APW path (Williams, 2007:18). Illustration of APW paths can be

shown in Figure 1.

The basic assumption used in paleomagnetik is the average length of time corresponding to the axis of the geomagnetic field dipole geosentrik. Data to support this important hypothesis stems partly from the study of secular variation and partly from observations paleomagnetik the younger rocks and sediments (Williams 2007:334-335). This hypothesis is called the geocentric axial dipole hypothesis. In other words, this hypothesis states the equality between the Earth's magnetic field in the long run with the location of a dipole located at the center of the earth and oriented along the axis of rotation (Williams, 2007:336).

Location polar paleomagnetic obtained from observations of rocks Pleistocene and Pliocene located very close around the geographic poles (Figure. 2). This supports the hypothesis geocentric axial dipole. However, when calculating the pole position paleomagnetik for rocks older on the same continent, they are located further away from the geographic poles. This case can be illustrated by the position of the poles paleomagnetik continental Europe. At the time of Pliocene and Pleistocene magnetic pole is located close to the geographic poles, but at the time of game in the magnetic poles is away at 45o (figure 3).

If the geocentric axial dipole hypothesis valid for rocks of all ages, distribution poles implies that the geographic poles game in continental Europe in the period (approximately 250-290 million years ago) should be located away from the current position. Alternative interpretation for this is that the geographic poles do not change, but the European continent who moved relative to the poles. This suggests that the location where the pole remained game in the days around the axis of rotation. Continental Europe and then moved up to be in a position at this time to the axis of rotation (Williams, 2007:345).

Terjemahan :

Paleomagnetik data we can use to overcome this uncertainty. If paleomagnetik pole position calculated from the rocks at different times on the same continent, they systematically forming an irregular curving lines. This path is the path APW (apparent polar wander). It looked as if pole paleomagnetik move slowly along the path towards the axis of rotation APW today. Data paleomagnetik on certain continents provide a unique APW path for the continent. Each continent has different APW path. It makes us have the APW path for the continent of Europe, Africa, North America and so on. Plot schematic APW path of Europe and North America since the early Paleozoic presented in Figure 4.
