Operations
During Landfill operations the waste collection of vehicles are weighed at a weighbridge on arrival and their load is inspected for wastes that do not accord with the landfills waste acceptance criteria, afterward, the waste collection vehicles using the existing road network on their way to the tipping face or working front where they unload their contents.
After load share deposit compactors or buldozers are used to spread and compact the waste on the working face .
Before leaving the landfill boundaries the waste collection vehicles passed through a wheel cleaning facility.
If neccessary, they return to the weighbridge in order to be weighed without their load.
Problems
One of the problems of landfills is pollution of the road from the dirty wheels on vehicles when they leave the landfill.
To reduce this wheel washing systems are used to clean the wheels as the vehicles crust the landfill.
Poisonous lichgate can also leak from the landfill contaminating nearby soil and ground water.
Methane gases are flammable and explosive if exposed to heat.
Ocean Dumping
Ocean disposal of society’s waste got its start indirectly long before the agricultural age when nearby streams, lakes and estuaries were useful waste repositories as civilization moved to the coastal zone and navigation began in earnest the ocean were as even a larger waste repository.
Early civilization were located adjacent to bodies of water for sources of food, irrigation, drinking water transportation and a place to dispose of unnecessary item.
Historically, the disposal of wastes into water by humans was universally practiced.
It was a cheap and convenient way to rid society of food wastes, trash, mining wastes and human wastes.
The advent of the industrial age brought with the new problem of the chemical wastes and by products: these were also commonly disposed off in the water.
America and China are toxic dumps
The US is one of the worlds leading garbage producers.Their unnecessary wastefulness is creating brew .US have become such a disposable society that they
are one of the top garbage producers in the world, dumping an estimated 254 million tons a year, less than a third of which is recycled.
That’s enough rubbish to fill more than 82,000 football fields packed six feet deep.
China is coming under one of the major developed countries and they are one of the leading garbage producers.
EFFECTS
A large number of adverse impacts may occur from landfill operations.
Damage occurrence can include infrastructure, pollution of the local environment off gazing of methane generated by decaying organic wastes.
